Childhood and Education
Dr. Adilakshmi was born in Aavuladoddi, a small village in Dhone mandal of Nandyal district in Rayalaseema region, Andhra Pradesh. She spent her early years in her grandmother’s village, Kappatralla, where she studied up to the 7th grade. Later, her parents moved to Kurnool for better livelihood opportunities, and Adilakshmi continued her education there. She studied at various local schools and completed her intermediate and degree courses from K.V.R. College, Kurnool. She then pursued postgraduate studies at the University of Hyderabad and completed Telugu Pandit training as well.
Challenges from a Patriarchal Society
Growing up in a patriarchal society, Dr. Adilakshmi faced significant resistance, especially from her father, who opposed her dream of pursuing higher education. He feared that sending her away for studies might bring misfortune or harm her future. Despite this, Adilakshmi held on to her determination and stepped out of her home to chase her dreams. This decision strained her relationship with her father, but she remained steadfast in her resolve to succeed.
Journey into Research
Dr. Adilakshmi initially aimed to find a job when she joined the University of Hyderabad. However, when opportunities didn’t come her way, she decided to pursue a Ph.D. Her research focused on “Telugu Stories Literature – The Changing Dynamics of Marriage Systems (1910–2010),” under the guidance of Professor Gona Naik. This academic journey not only honed her scholarly skills but also gave her a deeper understanding of society and her own identity.
Support and Personal Life
During her university days, Adilakshmi received significant support from her senior, Aruna, a fellow woman, who treated her like a sister and stood by her through thick and thin. This encouragement was pivotal in her journey. Adilakshmi later married a friend and classmate from the same university, breaking societal norms by entering into an inter-caste marriage.
Creative Talents
Beyond her academic achievements, Adilakshmi explored her creative side. She writes poems and stories, sings, and dances, using these activities not only for self-expression but also for mental well-being. She even learned karate in her youth, participated in competitions, and won a medal, showcasing her determination and multifaceted abilities.

Dr. Adilakshmi’s story highlights the power of education and determination in breaking societal barriers.
